What is SparkArts?
SparkArts is an annual gathering for people interested in the digital media presented in today's computer market. Each year we gather people interested or experienced in the field of digital games, photography, music, and art to learn and benefit from each other.
We will have open areas with computer terminals that people can use to build their own video games from an engine, write digital music, use art programs to create their own digital art, and more. We also have several experts offering panels, discussions, and short classes so you can learn more about digital photography, music, art, and programming. If you need a break, we also offer a scavenger hunt for people to play throughout the event.
At the end of the event (the Closing Ceremony) we will display submitted works created for or during SparkArts, and present awards to the best creations of the year. People will be able to vote for their favorite games, pieces of art, and music during the event to help judge the pieces.
Where is SparkArts?
SparkArts will be held at the Salt Lake City Public Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. The events will take place in the Conference Center (Rooms A, B, and C) and in the Auditorium for the closing event.
When is SparkArts?
SparkArts will be held Friday November 21st and Saturday November 22nd. The event runs from 11:00 AM until 6:00 PM Friday, and 9:30 AM until 5:00 PM Saturday. Panels, discussions, and classrooms are available during both days, with an open lab for programming and practice available until Closing Ceremonies Saturday evening. The Scavenger Hunt will run during both days, and the DDR tournament will be held Saturday afternoon.
How much does it cost?
Thanks to the Salt Lake City Library, SparkArts is FREE.
What should I bring?
You don't have to bring anything, but guests are encouraged to bring their own computers---the software used at SparkArts can be installed on your own machine so that you can continue to build and play at home. Computers will be available at the event as well.
Are there age limits?
We especially encourage high school and college students to attend the festival. Our festival is open to everyone who would like to learn more about how to create in the digital world, regardless of their age.
