The Scavenger Hunt

The Scavenger Hunt

The scavenger hunt is an opportunity for you to show your ingenuity around Salt Lake City and the surrounding area. Mind you, if you can find any of these objects elsewhere, you are free to do so. The scavenger hunt requires you to obtain pictures or objects, or perform actions in order to earn points. Each objective has a different points value, so some of the harder objectives may still be worth while. For example, getting a picture of the Salt Lake City Temple may be worth 5 points, but getting a picture in the bathrooms of the Grand America is worth 40. A lot harder, but well worth it.

The team that gains the most points by 3:00pm November 22 will be the winners. All of the objectives and rules are linked below. The rules are also listed below. Remember, Cleverness is rewarded! If you can complete an objective and make it extra funny, geeky, or weird, we'll give you extra points. One example is a picture of the men in the women's bathroom, and vice versa. Make it fun, make it cool, be a geek, and go for the gold!

Rules

1 A scavenger hunt team consists of up to 4 people.

a All persons must register with McKay at the scavenger hunt booth.

b "People" means all persons on the team must be sentient humans (a turing test may be issued)
i Think the rule is silly? This was an issue last year actually.
ii If none of you want to be in the pictures, find someone to add to your team, or skip the picture ones. Stuffed animals don't count.

c people can be added to the team, but cannot be removed from a team

d each person can only exist on one scavenger hunt team

2 All submissions can receive bonus points. Just impress me.

a Be geeky about it, be bold, be silly, be extravagant, be funny, be impressive. Any of these can get you extra points.

b Bring in a limited edition, or something not available to the public version of something asked for.

3 Many of the items are marked with an asterisk (*). These are repeatable. Just do it again with a different item (i.e. mimic the pose of more than one statue)

4 There are several entries marked with "(P)". These denote logic / math / physics / algorithmic problems that are to be solved by the team.

a The questions are not generally available until other simpler points are earned.

b I'm generally willing to help you work through the problem.

5 All turn ins must be done to McKay.

a This means either bringing something to McKay, or doing something in front of him.

b Pictures need to be turned in to him. McKay must retain a copy of each picture.
i Digital copies are preferred, but not required. Digital copies can be emailed, or copied directly to the submission computer, but prints would have to be surrendered
ii All submissions become the property of SparkArts and/or McKay. Feel free to do what you want with them, but we may use them for publicity or post them online.
iii This means that taking a picture with your cell phone camera can work, but you can't just show him the picture on your camera. You can mail them to him though.

6 All submissions must be received by 3:00 pm on Saturday.

Notes

1 Many of the items on this list have been included from previous years. Any that were not completed last year have had their point values doubled.

2 Many of the locations are not open in the evening, and many aren't open on Saturday.

3 Neither SparkArts nor McKay is responsible for any criminal act on behalf of the participants. If you can't get in, don't break in. Use your judgement.
