SparkArts

Frequently Asked Questions

How long has SparkArts been around?

Events like SparkArts have been in Utah for a while. Many previous events have been designed to appeal to the demoscene demographic. SparkArts is more interested in the video game field. “SparkArts” was started 2007.

Is it really free?

Yes. This is not a business designed to make money. We want to play with programming and computers, and we feel that students should get the same opportunity. This is an event designed to let students sit back, relax, and have fun building games, art projects, and musical achievements. Everything offered at the event is completely free, including the software.

Do I need any previous experience?

We don't expect you to know programming. If you'd like to learn the basics, we'll teach you. SparkArts has software that will let you start from scratch and build your own games using pre-existing engines.

What if I do have previous programming experience?

You'll be able to meet with other experts and fans in the field. We won't hold your hand unless you want us to, and you're welcome to build much more complex games, you can even write your own engine.

What is the intent of SparkArts?

To have fun! We love working with digital media, and we suspect you like it too. Come play with us, meet new people, make new friends, and write your own games!

What kind of events are available?

For those that love programming, we have a Game in a Day event. This is a 24 hour challenge to write your own video game.
For people more interested in drawing, we have an art challenge as well. Photography, digital paintings, animations, and other visual media are all welcome. Some of the video game designers may wish to speak with you as well...
For people who aren't really interested in video games, but are more interested in keeping friends company, we have several events available. We have a DDR Tournament and a Scavenger Hunt. Everyone is welcome to compete.
